Bar-On: Treasury will not give in to political pressure
Finance minister announces he will not be forced into sanctioning 2008's government budget, says 'treasury will rethink current make-up of arrangements bill'
Finance Minister Ronnie Bar-On said Monday that he will not be pushed into authorizing the 2008 budget.
Sources close to Bar-On told Ynet he has no intention of giving in political pressure, and will sanction the budged only if it proves to be "responsible and balanced."
Bar-On apparently slammed his follows to the coalition, saying they were a sad testimony to Israel's government and politics.
The treasury, said Bar-On, must learn from past budgetary hearings, and push for increased efficiency, especially within the education system and the defense establishment.
"Once they have receive generous additions to the budget originality given to them they will have to prove they have put that money to good use... We want to see results," he said.
The Finance Ministry, he added, will rethink the current make-up of the arrangements bill, making its future guideline more transparent while "responsibly decentralizing the ministry's immense responsibilities and powers."
Bar-On further called for the Israeli market to pay attention to world trends in order to guarantee the local market's strength and push to bridge the economical gaps within Israeli society.
