The body of an Israeli tourist, Asher Green, who went missing in Peru three months ago, was found in a mountainous area in southern Peru this weekend.

A local farmer discovered Green's body and locals called the police and rescue teams, which later identified the body as belonging to the missing Israeli.

The Israeli Embassy in Lima, Peru's capital, has been notified of the body's discovery, and in turn notified Green's family. Green's brother is handling the transfer of the body to Israel.

Searches for Green, conducted in coordination with the Israeli mission in Peru, were launched in November. Green was last heard from on November 4, just before leaving for a hike near the city of Arequipa in southern Peru.

Some time after his disappearance, Green's family contacted the Israeli Embassy in Lima asking for help with searches for their missing son.

Arequipa, the second largest city in Peru, is located some 1,300 kilometers south of the capital Lima. The city and its surroundings are considered a popular tourist destination.
