The official cause of death has yet to be determined, but police investigators have ruled out foul play after no signs of violence were found on the victim's body. They estimated that the man died of acute hypothermia after being exposed to the bitter cold.

A 19-day-old baby girl was rushed to the Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba overnight in serious condition, after suffering from the onset of hypothermia and respiratory failure.

Dr Tzahi Ben-Zion, the hospital's deputy chief of staff, told Ynet that the girl "was very cold" when she arrived.

"We began injecting her with warm fluids, and her condition has improved throughout the morning hours," he said.

Also on Thursday, an 80-year-old man was admitted to Soroka after his body temperature had dropped to 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit). He was treated with warm fluids and is listed in stable condition.

Another homeless man, a baby Bedouin girl and a number of elderly people were treated for mild hypothermia and later released to their homes.
