VIDEO - Israel's security establishment held a successful rocket systems test at the Palmachim Air Force Base Thursday, adding a propulsion system to a test-missile in order to review its operation.

"The IDF has conducted a rocket propulsion test at Palmachim as part of its missile development program," the defense establishment said.

In light of the satisfactory results, the military will review the new system's incorporation in its various missiles.

The defense establishment has begun pushing the development of its multilevel defense system, including, among others, the Iron Dome system, designed to fight Qassam rockets. The system also includes the use of Hetz missiles, designed to intercept surface-to-surface missiles.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak announced upon taking office that he intended to develop a multilevel defense system aimed at countering the various aerial threats Israel faces – from the mortar shells fired form the Gaza Strip to the long-range missiles Iran and Syria have.

The defense establishment has held numerous missile tests at Palmachim, including those of the Hetz missile.
