IDF kills senior al-Aqsa Brigades' operative

IDF forces operating in Balata refugee camp in Nablus kill senior al-Aqsa operative escaping sieged building, wounds four. Palestinians report Gaza IAF strike leaves one dead, three injured. 'Calm in West Bank is dead,' senior member of al-Aqsa tells Ynet

Special IDF forces operating in the Balata refugee camp in Nablus early Friday morning, killed Ahmed Senakre, a senior operative of the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades – the Fatah's military wing.

 

The force surrounded a building in which Senakre and other gunmen were hiding. Senakre was reportedly killed while trying to escape, four other gunmen were wounded. No injuries were reported amongst the IDF troops.

 

The Palestinian Authority voiced concerns that the IDF operation may lead to the understandings with al-Aqsa Brigades becoming null and void.

 

A senior member of al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades told Ynet that the calm instated in the West Bank is "dead" as a result of the IDF operation in the city over night.

 

Ahmed Senakre is the brother of Ala Senakre, considered head of the al-Aqsa operation in Nablus and one of the organization's senior figures in the West Bank. Ala Senakre was released from prison several months ago, as part of Israel's prisoners' release gestures to the PA.

 

Wednesday saw the commander of Islamic Jihad's al-Quds Brigades in the West Bank, Walid Obeidi, also known as Abu al-Qassam, killed by IDF forces operating in the village of Qabatiya. An M-16 rifle was found on his body.

 

Ibrahim Abu Rob, a wanted Jihad member, was arrested in the operation.

 

Obeidi, 45, the father of three from the village of Birkin near Jenin, has been a Jihad operative since the 1980s. Since 2004 was responsible for all the organization's activities in the West Bank, including shooting attacks and attempted terror attacks inside Israel.

 

He was appointed commander of the Jihad's military wing following the killing of the organization's leaders Louay Saadi of Tulkarem Hussein Jaradat of Jenin.

 

Meanwhile, Palestinian sources in Gaza reported Friday that one man was killed and three others wounded in an Israeli Air Force strike near the northern Gaza town of Jabalya.

 

The IDF confirmed the attack, saying it as aimed at a Qassam cell, firing at Israel.

 

Palestinian sources reported Thursday that three Palestinian civilians – among them a mother and her son – were killed in an IDF strike in northern Gaza.

 

The three – Marim el-Rahel, her son Mansour and one other family member – were riding in a donkey-drawn cart near Beit Lahia when they were hit by missiles fired from Israeli aircraft.

 

The IDF has increased its operations in the Strip over the last few days, as Earlier Thursday it struck a target in Beit Lahia, killing two and wounding several others. Raad al-Ful, 43, one of the heads of production for the Salah a-Din Brigades, the military wing of the Popular Resistance Committees, and his wife were killed in the strike.
