2 Qassams land in western Negev

Rocket fire resumed Saturday morning, as two Qassams hit Shaar Hanegev regional council; no injuries or damage reported. Simultaneously, IDF attacks launching cell, seriously injuring one of its members. Twenty-nine rockets fired at Israel on Friday

The rocket attacks on the southern town of Sderot and the western Negev continued Saturday morning. Two Qassam rockets fired from the northern Gaza Strip landed in the Shaar Hanegev regional council. There were no reports of injuries or damage.

At around 8:30 am, the Color Red alert system was activated in the Sderot area, followed by two explosions.

Simultaneously, the IDF attacked a terrorist cell spotted near immobile rocket launching pads in the northern Strip. The army reported that a hit was identified. Palestinian medics said the airstrike seriously wounded a member of a Gaza rocket squad.

About three hours later, the army struck four Qassam launching pads in the northern Strip. No injuries were reported.

Twenty-nine Qassam rockets landed in Sderot and the western Negev on Friday. One of the rockets hit the Peretz family's home in Sderot.

Magen David Adom crews dispatched to the area attended to six people. Four family members who were having dinner as the rocket hit their house suffered from shock.

PRC: Residents of southern Israel should evacuate

The Popular Resistance Committees on Friday called on the residents of Israel's south to evacuate their families from the line of fire.

A senior PRC official, Abu Abir, warned the rocket attacks would only increase and urged the evacuation of Sderot and its neighboring communities. "What was up until now is nothing compared to what will be. We call on them (the Israelis) to evacuate for their safety and the safety of their children," he said.

Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Dan Gillerman filed a harsh complaint with the UN's secretary-general and with the president of the Security Council in the wake of the latest rocket attacks on Israel.

Gillerman condemned the latest "severe and concerning act of terror against Israel" and emphasized that two kibbutz girls were hurt in an attack Wednesday. Israel claimed that Hamas leaders were aiming at intentionally killing Israeli residents.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Thursday that "if the Qassam fire from Gaza continues, we will step up our operations and increase the strikes against the Palestinian side."

Barak said that military operations, coupled with the fortifying of residents' houses, would resolve the problem of Qassams.
