My Land of Israel: A trip to the 1930s
Rivkah Zelner from the US used to visit her sister who immigrated to Israel and was one of the founders of Kibbutz Ein Hashofet. Rivkah enjoyed touring the country and even documented her journeys with her camera
Kibbutz Ein Hashofet was founded in 1937 by members of the Hashomer Hatzair movement who immigrated to Israel from the United States and Poland. A year later they moved to the kibbutz's permanent location.
Rivkah Zelner, whose sister Sid Hagai was one of the kibbutz founders, stayed in the US and used to visit her sister's family in Ein Hashofet from time to time.
During these visits, she would tour the country along with Tova Nir, another member of Ein Hashofer. The two girls had a camera and documented what they saw.
Here is a variety of the photos Rivkah took in the 1930s during her visits to Israel. We would like to thank Sid's daughter-in-law, Idit Hagai, for letting us publish these pictures.
