This is the brigade fighters' first encounter with a terrorist after not operating in the area for several months. The soldiers, who are more familiar with the Gaza Strip than any other IDF brigade, have recently been training in the Golan Heights, as part of the lessons being drawn from the Second Lebanon War.

The Givati fighters replace Golani soldiers who had been in charge of most of the IDF's activity in the Strip until recently. The regiments were deployed across the entire Strip, which each regiment taking charge of a certain area.

IDF officials said that the soldiers would continue to implement routine security measures, as well as taking part in all activities inside the Palestinian territory.

"We plan to continue to operate inside the Strip, as we did in recent months. Givati fighters are well familiar with the area and its nature. Together with armor and combat engineering forces and the Israel Air Force, they will continue their operational activity here according to our needs," a source said.
