IDF pounds Gaza; scores hurt

Army launches relentless strikes on Gaza targets; at least 13 Palestinians killed Thursday. Night attacks target vehicles, buildings; Palestinians say 'Israelis realize their defeat, target civilians'

IDF pounds Gaza targets: At least four Palestinians were killed in IDF strikes in the Gaza Strip Thursday night, Palestinian sources reported. The latest attacks brought the number of Palestinians killed in the Strip Thursday to 13.

Around 11:10 pm, the Palestinians reported that many civilians were hurt in an attack on the Palestinian Workers' Union in the northern Strip. According to the report, a 2-month-old baby was critically hurt.

Earlier, two Palestinians were killed in a strike on a truck traveling next to the Shifa hospital in the Strip, the Palestinians said. The sources said the truck was transporting soft drinks, but the identity of those killed is unknown at this time. Several other people were wounded in the attack. The IDF later said it attacked a vehicle packed with explosives.

Later, Palestinian sources reported that two employees of the Palestinian Energy Authority were killed in an IDF air strike. The sources said Israeli aircraft had targeted a vehicle in the town of Khan Younis. A short while later, the Palestinians reported that the IDF also attacked an apartment in central Gaza City said to be the home of a former senior member of Hamas' military wing. One person reportedly sustained serious wounds in the attack.

Gaza sources also reported heavy Israeli artillery fire towards open areas in northern Gaza. Meanwhile, sources in the Strip said that "the Israelis realize their defeat and therefore they are starting to kill civilians."

Arms warehouse hit

Earlier in the evening, Palestinian sources reported that a huge blast shook the northern Gaza Strip. The Palestinians said the explosion was unusually loud and added it was one of the most powerful Gaza blasts in the past few years.

As a result of the blast, fires could be seen from far away from the explosion site. The Palestinian sources estimated that the cause of the blast was a fighter jet attack. The IDF said that the Air Force targeted a warehouse that held large quantities of explosives.

A short while after the attack, another explosion was reported in the area. No injuries were reported in the strike.

Sources in Gaza also reported that the IDF attacked a training camp belonging to Hamas' special operational force in Gaza City. No injuries were reported in that strike either.

Thursday afternoon, four Palestinian teens were reportedly killed in IAF air strikes in northern Gaza, sources in the Strip reported.
