Residents evacuated due to fire near Kiryat Gat

Fire breaks out in pesticide warehouse in Moshav Sde Moshe, resulting in explosions. Residents also report of 'bad smell' emanating from place. Ministry of Environmental Protection orders those living within 220-yard radius evacuated

A large blaze is currently raging in a pesticide warehouse in Moshav Sde Moshe near the town of Kiryat Gat in southern Israel.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection has ordered the immediate evacuation of all residents living within a 220-yard radius of the site.

Seven firefighter units from the Ashkelon district have been dispatched to combat the flames. No injuries have been reported thus far.

Witnesses told Ynet that flames reached a height of several dozens meters after the pesticides exploded.

Ran Kron, the owner of a nearby horse ranch, said: "We virtually saw a meteor rain as a result of the explosions that are still continuing. It started out with a huge pillar of smoke. There is a very bad smell in the air and ongoing blasts can be heard."

Fires have been raging throughout the country Wednesday, as a result of the extreme heat wave. Firefighters were dispatched to areas in the Sharon District and near Petach Tikva to extinguish the blazes.
