IAF strikes southern Gaza

Gaza sources report air force strike on southern Strip town of Rafah; claim IAF failed to assassinate senior Hamas operative, killed two civilians. IDF claims targeting rocket cell, targets gunman with anti-tank missile

Palestinian sources reported Sunday that an Israeli fighter jet fired at a car driving in the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah.

According to the sources, IAF strike was in fact a targeted assassination attempt gone-wrong on Ra'ad al-Atar, a senior Izz al-Din Din al-Qassam – Hamas' military wing – operative.

Two people, reportedly civilians, were killed in strike. Atar was left unscathed. The IDF confirmed the attack, citing it was targeting a gunmen cell and that the pilots reported hitting the target.

Forces operating in northern Gaza overnight targeted two Palestinian gunmen preparing to launch an anti-tank missile towards the troops, who came under fire during the operation. No injuries were reported.

IDF forces have arrested over 30 Palestinians wanted for questioning since Sunday night.

Earlier Sunday, Palestinian gunmen fired several mortar shells at framer working the fields of kibbutz Nahal Oz. No injuries or damage were reported.

The Islamic Jihad's al-Quds Brigades and the Salah a-Din Brigades, the Popular Resistance Committees' military wing, claimed responsibility for the fire.

Sunday also saw seven Qassam rockets fired from northern Gaza at Sderot, Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Council and Sdot Negev Regional Council. All of the rockets landed in open area, causing no harm.
