Manhunt over: IDF nabs 2 Palestinian infiltrators

Two Palestinians who crossed Gaza Strip border fence north of Kissufim Crossing Saturday night captured by IDF troops; high alert lifted. Earlier, area residents ordered to stay home for fear of terror attack

Gaza manhunt over: IDF forces captured two Palestinians who crossed the Gaza border fence north of the Kissufim Crossing Saturday night. Earlier, the IDF surrounded the Kissufim area, which was sealed off after the two infiltrators were spotted within Israeli territory.

The infiltrators, who were spotted by the IDF around 8 pm Saturday, were apparently armed and wearing bullet-proof vests.

Immediately following the infiltration, residents in the southern communities of Nir Oz, Re'im, Nirim, Kissufim, and Ein Hashlosha were ordered to stay indoors and community security teams were called in. A large-scale search was launched a short while after first reports of the infiltration were received.

Earlier, Kissufim resident David Ben Shofet told Ynet: "Kibbutz residents are in their homes. The security team has been dispatched and is securing the community's internal fence"

Ben Shoftet also said IDF choppers could be seen in the area.

Staying away from border fence

About 10 days ago, a Palestinian infiltration attempt was thwarted at the Kerem Shalom terminal on the Gaza Border. IDF forces identified three Palestinians and fired at them, thus thwarting the attack.

Recently, residents of communities bordering Gaza were instructed to review emergency procedures for fear of terror infiltrations. Moran Freibach, who is a member of the Nahal OZ security team, said that "we were ordered not to walk near the fences or to distant areas."

Meanwhile, security guards were placed at synagogues in the Sdot Hanegev council for fear of terror attacks.
