Israeli singer Nurit Galron will join an aid delegation to Africa along with film legend Mia Farrow. Galron is scheduled to leave Wednesday on her visit to the Central African Republic.
Bordering Chad, Sudan and Congo, this is one of the top ten poorest countries in Africa. The republic is currently at war, with dozens of thousands of refugees needing care.
This is a joint initiative of the Foreign Ministry, The American Jewish Committee (AJC), UNICEF (The United Nations Children's Fund ) and IsraAID
(The Israel Forum for International Humanitarian Aid).
The task given to Galron is to determine the ways in which Israel can
aid the refugees. The goal: To raise awareness in Israel of the hardship suffered by third-world populations and improve Israel’s image around the world.
Galron will join American film star Mia Farrow, who is UNICEF’s honorary ambassador. Farrow adopted a sick girl during her first visit to the country, and funded her operation.
On the agenda for Galron and Farrow: Visiting UNICEF headquarters, schools and food centers as well as meeting the leaders of the major tribes of the republic and its president.
“It’s a great honor for me to represent Israel in an intricate region such as Africa, Galron said Sunday. “I am very excited to take the trip and meet Mia Farrow.”
