Ahmadinejad: Israel behind Iran mosque blast

After blaming US, Britain for explosion at Shiraz mosque, Iranian leader says Israel also guilty

Let's blame Israel: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad accused Israel Tuesday of involvement in the Shiraz mosque explosion last month that killed 14 people, Iranian news agency (IRNA) reported.

After Iran claimed earlier that the United States and Britain were responsible for the explosion, Ahmadinejad named Israel too, and said that “the three countries announced that they were planning to assassinate Iranians, which was followed a short time later by the Shiraz mosque crime.” The Iranian leader added that “thanks to efforts by Iranian intelligence agencies, the perpetrators of the blast were quickly arrested and confessed to their ties to the Zionist regime, the US and Britain.”

Earlier, an Iranian spokesman issued an official announcement regarding the detainment of 12 suspects in connection with the blast. However, in his announcement he said the suspects only confessed to ties with the US and Britain.

Legal action against US, Britain?

"The detainees clearly admitted to their ties with foreigners, and especially with the US and Britain," he said at a press conference, and added that the suspects' ties with outsiders were uncovered via bank accounts "used by foreigners to provide the terrorists with financial support."

The Iranian spokesman said the detainees were in possession of explosives and intended to target additional sites, and added that Iran may take legal action against the US and Britain over the mosque blast.
