The Chairman of the fund is Rennen Shor, who also heads the Sam Spiegel Film and Television School in Jerusalem, and the fund’s preliminary budget is about NIS 7 million (about $2 million.)

The fund, established by The Jerusalem Development Authority and the Jerusalem Foundation will focus on feature-length films and TV series – on condition that at least 50% of the shooting takes place in Jerusalem.

“Since the cinematographers act took effect in 2000, 20-25 feature-length films are being produced every year, but on an annual average, only one of them shot in Jerusalem, says Shor.

“The Israeli cinema is predominantly Tel Aviv-based for financial reasons as much as cultural ones. We believe that by pulling in funds, the Jerusalem Film and Television Fund will increase the volume of Israeli feature-film productions up to 25-30, out of which 6-7 will depict Jerusalem.”
