Miki Goldwasser: Gilad Shalit my new priority

Miki Goldwasser's fight to free her son, Ehud Goldwasser, from Hizbullah captivity may have ended in tragedy, but the fight for Gilad Shalit's release is still being waged, and Goldwasser has announced she intends to be on the front lines, saying she will now devote herself to the campaign to free the kidnapped IDF soldier from Hamas captivity.

Hundreds continued to flock to the Goldwasser residence in the northern Israeli town of Nahariya Monday, to offer their condolences for Ehud's death.

Among the visitors were Ofer Dekel, the Prime Minister's Office emissary heading Israel's efforts on behalf of its missing and captive soldiers and Director of Military Intelligence Major-General Amos Yadlin.

"We have to focus all of our efforts on freeing Gilad," she said. "I am a soldier in Aviva and Noam's service now. We won't rest until Gilad is back home,"

"We have a very important goal right now and that is to keep Gilad's case a top public priority. He has to be on everyone's mind, all the time," added Goldwasser.

Commenting on Defense Minister Ehud Barak's recent call on the government to keep the efforts made on Shalit's behalf covert, Goldwasser said she believed once must adhere to the needs and guidelines of the officials heading the negotiations, in order not to harm the process.
