An Israel Defense Forces paramedic serving in an induction center in northern Israel was charged Wednesday with raping a female soldier about 10 months ago.

The indictment was filed by Military Advocate General with the GOC Army Headquarters court. Although the incident allegedly took place almost a year ago, the soldier only filed a complaint several weeks ago.

According to the indictment, the paramedic asked the soldier to enter the base clinic, and at a certain point the two lay down on the bed. The paramedic began caressing the soldier, despite the disapproval. He then slid his hand under her shirt and told him that she "turns him on".

At this stage, he put his hand on the soldier's mouth in order to prevent her from screaming. The soldier attempted to kick him in the crotch, but he undressed her and raped her.

The soldier's lawyer, Attorney Guy Ein-Zvi, told Ynet that the indictment failed to describe what really took place. He claimed the soldier was a manipulative woman who has been trying to be discharged from the army for several months now, and had filed the complaint in hopes that this would lead to her release.

"The soldier did not have sexual intercourse with the complainant, and the evidence obtained by the Investigating Military Police support this," said the lawyer. It should be noted that the soldier had evaded service in the past.

The IDF Spokesperson's Office said in response that "when the investigation was launched, the soldier was arrested and is still in detention. Next week the military court will rule whether he will remain in custody until the legal proceedings are completed."
