Taiwan opposes Chinese attempt to change island's name for Olympics

A dispute simmering between Taiwan and China over what the island's Olympic team will be called at the upcoming games showed signs of abating Friday after an official Chinese news agency dropped a controversial reference to the team.
The change came hours after several Taiwanese lawmakers threatened to boycott the games if China insisted on calling the island, "Zhongguo Taipei," a name in the Chinese language that strongly suggests Taiwan is part of China. (AP)
