India: Israeli tourist killed in car accident

Dina Hoshea was travelling near Punjab province with her husband, two children when their car overturned; meanwhile, search for another Israeli who went missing in river in Laos continues

An Israeli woman in her forties was killed in a car accident on Friday afternoon while travelling near the Punjab province in northeast India.

Dina Hoshea had gone to India with husband Yaakov and 18-year-old son Raz to meet up with their eldest daughter, Adi, who has been trekking through East Asia for several months now. The circumstances surrounding the accident have yet to be determined. It has been confirmed that the family hired a car and driver upon their arrival to India and that all four where in the car when it overturned.

The driver was also killed in the accident. The three remaining family members sustained light injuries and were treated by local medical teams.

Hoshea, a well-known figure in her resident Carmiel, was appointed principal of the town's 'Shahar' school last year. The school aims to help young children with learning and social disabilities move on to integrate in regular schools later in their education.

Irit Ran, a social worker at the school and a personal friend of Hoshea's told Ynet: "We have lost a warm woman who was the epitome of the word 'giving.' She was loved by the parents, the children and the faculty."

Ran said that the accident apparently happened shortly after the family had met up with Adi in India.

At the Carmiel municipality officials said they were preparing to assist the family with the funeral preparations and the days after it. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is to handle the necessary arrangements to repatriate the body. Indian authorities are continuing to investigate the accident.

Searching for Avner

Meanwhile in Laos the search continues for Israeli tourist Avner Bardugo, 25, who went missing Friday morning after his kayak rolled over during an expedition in the Megonk River.

A friend who was travelling with Bardugo in the craft immediately contacted local emergency services. The Foreign Ministry said Israel's consul in Vietnam was making his way to Laos to assist in the search. An
Israeli rescue team has also been sent to Laos despite the fact that Bardugo was not insured.

One of the missing Israeli's relatives told Ynet that the family is in need of financial assistance to continue the search.
