Egyptian guards kill illegal Sudanese migrant

Border guards shoot dead Darfur refugee as he tries to cross illegally into Israel; three other migrants arrested

An Egyptian medical official says border guards have shot dead a Sudanese migrant who was trying to cross illegally into Israel.

Imad Kharboush, head of the Northern Sinai ambulance department, says that a 24-old Sudanese man from the war-torn Darfur region was shot with a bullet in the back of his head while trying to get across barbed wire on the Egypt-Israel border early Wednesday.

Kharboush says the man was among a group of four other Sudanese migrants. The other three were arrested, and two of them were slightly wounded in the incident.

Many African migrants seeking jobs try to cross illegally into Israel from Egypt.

About two weeks ago Egyptian border guards killed another Sudanese migrant who was allegedly trying to cross illegally into Israel.

Imad Kharboush of El-Arish Hospital said 32-year-old Abdel-karim Ahmed Adam died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

A police official in Rafah said the migrant ignored warning shots and continued running toward the border fence. The official said seven other Sudanese have been arrested in a separate incident south of Rafah.
