Israir to freeze flights to New York

Airline announces operation of direct line from Tel Aviv to New York to be halted in mid September as it is no longer profitable

Israir Airlines announced Wednesday that it will halt the operation of its direct flights from Tel Aviv to New York from mid September.

According to the company, the decision to freeze the line was made in light of the non-profitability involved in their operation in the current market conditions.

The airline added that the scheduled flights would be operated as planned until September 13, and that it would work to provide alternative flights for all passengers who have already purchased rickets for later dates.

The company will look into resuming the flights to the United States before the next season.

A Ynet inquiry revealed that Israir's website still offers flight rickets to New York for dates later tan September 13. The company said in response that the error was fixed immediately and that tickets for irrelevant dates can no longer be booked.

Israir launched its direct flights to New York in 2006. Its decision to freeze the line was made about one month after El Al Airlines announced that it would halt its flights to Miami due to the rise in jet fuel prices.
