The grand finale was held in front of an audience of 30,000 people in Lake Kinneret in northern Israel. Bar-On performed a song he wrote himself, which tells of his detachment from his religious home and his new life without his mother and father.
The new star's friends said that they hoped his win would also lead to reconciliation within his family.
Yedioth Ahronoth has learned that the show's producers will attempt to arrange the enlistment of Bar-On, who did not serve in the IDF.
"I am very excited," Bar-On said Tuesday night. "I did not come to 'A Star is Born' to win. The thing I enjoyed most was getting on the stage and hearing the audience's reactions. Today I hope to make a new start in my life."
