Saudi authorities have beheaded a Saudi man convicted of murder in Riyadh on Thursday. The Interior Ministry says Faten bin Falaj was convicted of robbing and stabbing to death Youssef Ahmed Bira, an Indian, in a desert area outside the capital Riyadh.
Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam under which people convicted of murder, drug trafficking, rape and armed robbery can be executed. Thursday's execution brings to 73 the number of people beheaded this year in the kingdom. Last year, 137 people were beheaded, up sharply from 38 in 2006. (AP)
