Border Guard officers dispatched to the scene seized the knife and arrested the suspect. The man was turned over for further questioning by the Jerusalem Police Minorities Division.
The police are now trying to ascertain whether the man is a resident of east Jerusalem or a Palestinian.
Sunday's attempted attack came on the heels of another stabbing attack, carried out in the capital's Gilo neighborhood on Thursday morning.
The attack claimed the life of 86-year-old Avraham Ozeri, and left a police officer wounded.
