Ramon to Livni: I'm not quitting Kadima

Vice premier informs party chairwoman he will run in Dec. 17 primaries, assist in election campaign. 'It is extremely important that Kadima continue leading the country,' he says

Knesset Member Haim Ramon has informed Kadima Chairwoman and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni on Friday that he will not be quitting politics and plans on running in the party's primary elections, scheduled for December 17.

Despite recent reports saying the vice premier was considering leaving politics, Ramon assured Livni that he plans to assist in Kadima's election campaign.

"As someone who helped found Kadima and initiate the 'political bang', I consider it extremely important that Kadima under Livni's leadership continue to lead the country after the general elections (February 10)," he said during a meeting at the chairwoman's Tel Aviv home.

"I will help in any way possible. Israel is facing political, security and economic challenges, and I plan on using my experience to help the country."

Livni said following the meeting "Ramon has always been a central force within Kadima and in the political battle against Likud," adding that she plans on appointing the MK to a senior position in the party's campaign headquarters.

Earlier this week Livni pleaded with Ramon not to leave politics, and the MK asked for a few days to weigh his options.

A Kadima official said a few days ago that Ramon had "lost his passion for politics."
