Over 50,000 documents detailing efforts to hunt down Nazis hiding in US handed over to Shoah museum in Washington
More than 50,000 trial documents detailing World War II-era plots to kill Jews have been turned over to the US Holocaust Memorial Museum.
The Justice Department turned over bound copies of the evidence papers, hearing transcripts and court orders that show its efforts to hunt down Nazis hiding in the United States over the last 30 years.
The document trove comes as the number of surviving Holocaust victims — and the Nazis that sought to kill them — dwindles with age.
Justice still is investigating about a dozen cases of alleged Nazis living in the United States. Investigators must prove the accused participated in Holocaust efforts before they legally can be deported from the country.
