Will the rain scare off potential visitors? The organizers of the Akko Festival of Alternative Theater are concerned that the week-long event, which had been postponed by two months this year in wake of the Yom Kippur riots
that broke out in town, would suffer from the grim weather expected in the coming days.
Producers are especially worried that the outdoor events – which are one of the festival's main attractions – would have to be cancelled in light of the rainy forecast.
These events include various musical shows and performances by street theater from across Israel.

It has therefore been decided to erect a huge tent at the festival garden in the Old City that would host part of the events. Other performances will be held in roofed venues, but will remain free of charge as before.
The festival opens Monday with the launching of a photo exhibit by Eyal Landsman, who has been documenting the festival and its participants for years. The Israeli photographer presents in the exhibition pictures taken minutes before actors went on stage at the Akko festival and the Avignon festival in France.
The nine plays participating in the official competition will premiere during the festival at the knights' Halls in Old Akko.
