In response to reports that kidnapped Israel soldier Gilad Shalit was injured in the IDF attacks in Gaza, the IDF Spokesperson's Unit said the soldier was an asset to Hamas, and the organization would do anything to keep him alive. It was also stated that the IDF holds Hamas responsible for Shalit's safety.
In recent days military officials have warned the Shalit family that Hamas may try to use media manipulations regarding Gilad's condition following the attack in the Strip. (Hanan Greenberg)
