2 rockets explode near Ashkelon

Palestinians in north Gaza fire rockets toward southern city's industrial zone; no reports on injury or damage

Palestinian gunmen resumed their attacks on Israel Sunday night, as two rockets fired from the northern Strip exploded in an open area near Ashkelon's southern industrial zone. There were no reports on injury or damage.

At around 11:30 pm a Qassam rocket landed in Eshkol Regional Council limits. No injuries or damage were reported.

Earlier Sunday, three Qassams landed in the Sderot area. One rocket caused damage after hitting the yard of a house, but no injuries were reported.

"Like most houses in the area, ours is not fortified," a neighbor said, "those who built secure rooms inside their homes are able to take cover when the rockets fall, but the others are counting on a miracle. Luckily, the rocket landed in the yard and did not hit the house directly; otherwise there would have been a huge disaster."

In all, some 40 rockets were fired toward Israel's southern region on Sunday. At around noon a number of rockets hit the Ashdod area; one directly hit a store in the city. A woman sustained mild injuries in the attack and one person suffered shock.

Additional rockets exploded near Ashkelon and in the Eshkol and Sha'ar Hanegev Regional Councils. An Eshkol resident sustained light shrapnel injuries.

Earlier a rocket struck a house in Sderot; a number of people were treated for shock, but no injuries were reported. The city of Netivot was also targeted, but there were no reports of injury there.
