Obama says he's being updated on Mideast

US President-elect Barack Obama says he's been getting daily briefings on the situation in the Middle East, where Israel continues its offensive against the Hamas rulers of Gaza.

He's offering little comment, saying that "delicate negotiations are taking place," and that there can't be "two voices coming out of the United States." Obama takes office January 20. President George W. Bush earlier Monday offered his first public reaction to Israel's ground invasion of Gaza. Bush said the Jewish state is justified in protecting itself against Hamas militants.
