After a quiet night in Israel's southern communities, sirens were sounded again across Israel's south on Wednesday morning, followed by loud explosions.

A Grad rocket landed in residential grounds in Ashkelon Wednesday morning. Two people were treated for shock by Magen David Adom paramedics. Police forces, firefighter units and ambulances have been alerted to the site.

Earlier Wednesday, several Grad rockets landed in open fields near Ashdod and in the Be'er Tuvia Regional Council limits. Rockets also exploded in the Sha'ar Hanegev and Eshkol regional councils.

No injuries or damage were reported in the attacks.

The defense establishment estimated this week that the rocket fire on Israel would increase, and that Hamas would even start using longer-range rockets as the operation in Gaza expands.

School has been cancelled in all communities within 25 miles from the Gaza Strip, including Beersheba.

On Tuesday a rocket exploded in the community of Gedera, lightly injuring a three-month old baby and causing substantial damage.

Ilana Curiel and Shmulik Hadad contributed to the report
