Police to resume fighting crime 'after Gaza op'
Commissioner Dudi Cohen visits children of South District police officers who are visiting Netanya, tells them of department's part in operation in Strip
Police Commissioner Dudi Cohen said Wednesday that once Operation Cast Lead has run its course, the Police Department will once again turn all of its attention to fighting crime.
Cohen spent his morning visiting the children of Southern District police officers, who have been the guests of the Netanya Police since early this week.
The Netanya adventure, meant to take the children's minds off the war ranging off the Israel-Gaza border, had them visit Mevoot Yam Marine Academy, where they got the chance to sail boats, ride horses and visit a sea turtle reservation.
The police, Cohen told the children, plays a pivotal roll in the Gaza campaign, with mass forces deployed in the south; but nevertheless, police forces are still making sure civil order is maintained all across Israel.
The commissioner hailed the work of the Central Police District and Hasharon Subdistrict Police, for their ability to maintain a prolific dialogue with the heads of the Arab communities in their respective sectors, resulting in little to no riots and road blocks in the area.
Speaking of the police efforts to fight crime, Cohen also noted the statistics indicating a decline in crime rates both in Israel's north and its south.
"Our main goal is still fighting crime," he said. "We have to adapt to the situation and we reassign forces to foil terror attacks and deal with riots."
