Germany, Britain call for Gaza ceasefire

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown are pledging their countries' support to help stop the flow of weapons to Hamas. Speaking at a joint news conference, the two leaders said Thursday that a top priority was an immediate ceasefire.

They say their countries can help Egypt and others police Gaza's borders to prevent weapons being smuggled into the territory. Israel says it will press forward until it receives guarantees that Hamas will stop smuggling weapons into Gaza. (AP)
