Kadima: Netanyahu will turn Gaza triumph into defeat

Despite deciding to suspend election campaign until Gaza offensive ends, Kadima lashes out at Likud chairman through Russian press, says his 'insatiable lust for power' leads him to 'work against Israel's interests'

Despite the big parties' announcement that they would be suspending their election campaigns pending the conclusion of the Israeli offensive in Gaza, Kadima seems to be losing patience.

 

With the general elections just three weeks away, the ruling party has decided to launch an aggressive assault on Likud Chairman Benjamin Netanyahu; but since the mainstream Israeli media is following their wartime political conduct closer than ever, Kadima's onrush is being made via the Russian media.

 

Netanyahu is the subject of two articles feature in Mig Magazine's weekend issues, and both are less than flattering, going even as far as suggesting the Likud chairman is working against Israel's interests.

 

In order to make some political headway, says one of the pieces, Netanyahu is willing to present Israel's impending victory over against its enemy as a failure. "He does it with the same ease in which he set (deceased Hamas co-founder Sheikh) Ahmed Yassin free.

 

"How insatiable must his lust for power be that this is the price it carries?" wondered the author of another piece. "The master of elegant coups, must have realized that governing over a people devoid of their self respect due to failure is easier, and that must be why he is ignoring Israel's success in Gaza.

 

"He fails to realize that by jeering at his political opponents he both demoralized his countrymen and harmed his country in the international arena."

 

The magazine goes on to chide the opposition leader for trying to present his voters with a distorted view of Operation Cast Lead, saying that in the mane of political victory, Netanyahu's advisors "decided to eliminate the one thing they think stands in their way – the achievements in the Strip."

 

The articles do not carry any one byline, but sport the name "Trio," which is in fact a subsidiary of the Adler Homski & Warshavsky Groups, one of Israel's' largest ad agency, which specialized among other things in the advertising for the Russian sector. Reuven Adler, co-founder of the company, is one of Kadima's campaign managers.
