A man in his 20s was found shot to death Monday on a dirt road between Kibbutz Regavim and the Eiron Interchange in northern Israel.
It was initially thought that the man had been run over by an all-terrain vehicle whose driver had fled the scene, but officers from the Zichron Yaakov Police Department who were dispatched to the scene at around 4:30 pm found multiple gunshot wounds on his body.
Investigators have yet to determine whether the murder was criminally-motivated or carried out by terrorists.
Eyewitnesses said the victim was wearing a track suite and was apparently jogging when he was shot.
Rescue teams found a number of empty bullet cartridges near the body; it is estimated that the man was killed a short while before his body was discovered.
