Mom rewards 11-year-old with joyride

Police stopping suspicious driver stunned to find young girl behind wheel, with mother at her side. Woman tells officers she let her daughter drive as reward for getting A in school exam

A young mother from Tel Aviv found an original way to reward her daughter for receiving an A in an exam this week - by letting her take the family's car for a spin.

The 11-year-old girl was caught in the act, and the mother, in her 30s, was detained for questioning and told police the joyride was a prize she gave her daughter.

Police officers on patrol in central Tel Aviv noticed a car being driven by someone who seemed too small to be sitting in the driver's seat.

When they pulled the car over to investigate, officers were surprised to find that the driver was only 11-years-old.

The stunned officers asked the mother, who was sitting beside the young driver, why she let her take the wheel.

In response the mother said her daughter had shown interest in driving the car, so she promised the child that if she got an A in one of her school exams, she would let her.

When the girl came home with the desired grade, her mother kept her word and let her drive the car.

The mother and daughter were transferred to the traffic police headquarters where the mother was questioned for allowing a minor without a license to drive a vehicle.

The car was confiscated for 30 days, the mother's license was revoked, and the two were sent home.
