First Tel Aviv int'l theater festival to kick off in 2009
As part of city's centennial celebrations, Cameri Theater brings 16 productions from across the globe in 11-month festival from February to November
Sixteen productions from across the globe will be making their way to Israel this year to take part in Tel Aviv's First International Theater Festival as part of the city's centennial celebrations.
The festival will be held at the Cameri Theatre, where plays will be put on in their original language, with a translation into Hebrew.
According to the festival's producers, other activities will also be held, including workshops with actors visiting Israel during the year, exhibitions and staged readings.
The festival's budget stands at NIS 2.7 ($690,000), with Omri Nitzan as artistic director.
The festival will span a period of 11 months, with the performances beginning next month and ending in November 2009.
Productions coming to Israel include the Berliner Ensemble's "Threepenny Opera" that will be presented at the end of February, Philippe Genty's "Boliloc" at the start of March, and the Rond-Pont Theatre in Paris' "The Promised Land" scheduled to be staged at the end of March and start of April.
Other theaters to take part in the festival include Poland's TR theatre, the Czech Republic's National Theatre, the European Theatre Convention, China's Dramatic Arts Center, New York's Broadway, Roman Viktiuk's theatre in Russia, and more.
