Wonderful news for Israeli wonders
Three Israeli sites – Dead Sea, Red Sea and Ein Gedi - make it to quarter finals of 'Seven New World Wonders' competition. 'Hopefully this will help raise awareness to Dead Sea's grave condition,' says local official
The New Seven Wonders Foundation announced this week the names of 261 natural and heritage sites across the world that have made it to the quarter final in the global competition for electing new seven world wonders of nature.
The Red Sea and the Dead Sea were named in the Multinational Sites category, while Ein Gedi was included in the National Sites category.
The three Israeli sites will compete with places such as the Grand Canyon, Loch Ness, Fuji Mountain, the Danube River, the Mont Blanc and Niagara Falls on continuing to the semi finals.

The competition will carry on over the next two years and is expected to include some billion voters from across the globe. The foundation will announce the winners in 2011.
Mordechai Dahman, head of the southern Megilot Regional Council, was thrilled to hear of the Dead Sea making it to the quarter finals. "The Dead Sea is one of the wonders of nature that we were privilege to be entrusted with," he said.
"Hopefully the Dead Sea's election would help raise awareness to the importance of finding a solution to the sea's grave condition, which has been brought about by humankind's doing, and we would be able to save its future," he added.
