National Union chair spars with terrorist's grandmother

'Arab schools shouldn't teach murder of Jews, like schools in Europe did,' says Katz on Jerusalem tour

Members of the National Union Party toured east Jerusalem Tuesday, and passed by the home of Kasem Mugrabi, the terrorist who rammed his vehicle into a group of soldiers in Jerusalem last year. The party called for the razing of the house, located in Jabel Mukaber neighborhood.

"As you can see, this is a beautiful and fancy home belonging to one of the wealthiest families in Jerusalem," said Yaakov Katz, who heads the party.

"All kinds of false prophets say that when the Arabs are rich and their economy healthy, they will wander from the path of terror. Where is Jumes now? Where is Peres?" he asked, referring to Meretz Party Chairman Chaim Oron and President Shimon Peres. "All the money in the world didn't help here."

Meanwhile, a crowd including the late Mugrabi's grandmother had gathered around the speaker and his entourage. He asked her how the family had raised its son to be a terrorist, and she answered in Arabic, but no one on the scene could translate her response.

Katz accused the Arab schools of providing youths with a flawed education. "Their schools shouldn't teach the murder of Jews, like the schools in Europe did," he said.

The tour then continued into the bustling market of the Old City in Jerusalem. The politicians, waving their party's orange flag proudly in the Muslim Quarter of the city, asked passers-by about their political tendencies. For the most part, they were ignored.

The National Union Party, which has set its sights on the Religious-Zionist public in Israel, stated its case to Ynet. "We certainly think it's not proper to vote for Lieberman, who wants to divide Jerusalem, or the Likud," said MK Uri Ariel, number two on the party's roster.

Ariel claimed Likud Chairman Benjamin Netanyahu "supported the disengagement, and even today he doesn't promise that a Palestinian state will not be established in Judea and Samaria."
