Iran's Khatami to announce presidential plan

Former President Mohammad Khatami, who oversaw a thaw in ties with the West when in office

from 1997 to 2005, will on Sunday announce he will run for the presidency again in the June election, political allies said.

"We convinced him and he is going to announce it," one of the close political allies told Reuters. Two other allies of the president confirmed that the announcement would be on Sunday. (Reuters)
