Gaza exports 25,000 flowers to Europe
For first time since Hamas took control of Strip, Israel allows transfer of carnations through Kerem Shalom crossing ahead of Valentine's Day
Some 25,000 carnations were transferred Thursday from the Gaza Strip to Europe through the Kerem Shalom crossing.
This is the first time in a year and a half that Israel allows the transport of flowers from the Strip, following a request made by Dutch elements ahead of Valentine's Day which will take place this Saturday.

In the past, before Hamas gained control of Gaza, Israel let farmers in the Strip export their produce to Europe. This was halted after the Gaza takeover, causing many farmers who grow flowers in the Strip to lose their source of livelihood.
Meanwhile, the transfer of humanitarian aid into the Strip continues, mainly through the Kerem Shalom crossing, as well as through the Nahal Oz fuel terminal and the Karni crossing in northern Gaza, although the crossings are still considered closed.
Israel also allows the entry of up to 200 trucks a day carrying medical equipment and basic food. Most of the equipment comes from international organizations and is donated by different countries, as well as from merchants in the West Bank.
