IDF: 1/4 of service exemptions on religious grounds fraudulent

IDF Human Resources Chief Maj. Gen. Avi Zamir estimates that close to one quarter of those who claim to lead a religious lifestyle in order to obtain exemption from serving in the IDF do not indeed lead a religious lifestyle, making their use of such a declaration illegal.
According to him, the IDF has tightened inspections in this area, recently rejecting the declarations of some 500 youths seeking an exemption from military service due to a religious lifestyle. (Hanan Greenberg)
