A 22-year-old Israeli tourist was killed in a road accident in Balclutha, New Zealand Thursday night.
The Foreign Ministry is examining initial information received in the matter and the tourist's family has been notified. The youth's name has not been cleared for publication.
New Zealand media reported that, according to a local police investigation, the accident occurred when two cars collided with each other and that the tourist appeared to have been driving on the wrong side of the road.
In New Zealand, as opposed to Israel, traffic moves on the left side of the road.
The youth killed was alone in the vehicle, while the other car contained five youths. Sergeant Martin Ball of the local police told media that road accident investigators arrived at the scene to examine the incident.
Sergeant Ball said that while the investigation was yet to be complete, it seemed that the youth killed was driving in the opposite lane.
Ball added that police were still waiting for information on the other five youths injured in the crash, saying one of the youths was thrown forward upon collision.
