McCafé at Ben Gurion Airport

McDonald's to launch coffee chain in Israel

International fast food company to launch McCafé coffeehouse chain in Israel, with two locations in Tel Aviv, Ramat Gan already set and more to follow

McDonald's Israel is branching out into the espresso bar market and has announced plans to bring its McCafé chain to a number of locations in Israel.

The new coffee house-style branches will include comfortable seating areas, porcelain dishes and pastries imported from France.

Sandwiches and breakfast menus will also be available in the new McCafé stores. The products will be produced by a French pastry factory that also supplies part of the McCafé branches in Europe.

A McCafé branch has been operating in Israel at the Ben Gurion International Airport for a number of years, but only as a take-away counter.

The first McCafé shop will open on Rothschild Boulevard in Tel Aviv, in place of an old McDonald's branch that has been closed for over a year. The new branch will include a regular McDonald's seating area and a McCafé shop.

The second branch will open inside a McDonald's branch at the Ayalon Mall in Ramat Gan, with $1 million renovations on the location recently completed. Here too the area will be divided into a regular McDonald's and a café.

Yedioth Ahronoth's Mamon financial section has learned that additional McCafé branches will be opened in other renovated McDonald's shops with a large enough area.

The chain plans to compete with espresso bar chains mainly by offering lower prices and deals.

For example, anyone purchasing a full meal at McDonald's will have the option of buying a mini croissant and a cappuccino for the price of NIS 7.50 ($1.86), instead of the regular price of NIS 9.90 ($2.46).

Branching out into the coffee business is part of the company's attempt to expand in the field of fast food while maintaining its accessible prices.
