New exhibit: Echoes of Egypt

Marking 30th anniversary of Israel-Egypt peace agreement, Bible Lands Museum Jerusalem opens exhibit dedicated to magnificence of 19th century Egypt

In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Israel-Egypt peace agreement, the Bible Lands Museum Jerusalem opened on Sunday a new exhibition, Echoes of Egypt, in the presence of national and international dignitaries.

This unique exhibition displays an impressive collection of photos, paintings, maps and prints of Egypt's magnificent monuments and daily life in the 19th century.

On display are photos from 1857 by Francis Frith, paintings from 1838 by David Roberts and more work of arts by famous painters and photographers who were among the first westerners to document Egypt's mysteries and wonders.

Echoes of Egypt offers a glimpse into a time and place where the western world first began to discover the magnificence of Egypt.

The photos, maps and paintings on display are on loan from the private collection of Dan Kyram, who is also Guest Curator to the BLMJ for this exhibition. Kyram began collecting 30 years ago, and this is a selection of some of his finest material on Egypt.
