Source: Iranian diplomat to join US at meeting

A Dutch diplomat says Iran is sending its deputy foreign minister to an international conference on ending insurgency violence in Afghanistan and strengthening the country's government.

The diplomat, who is helping to organize Tuesday's meeting in the Netherlands, says Iranian Minister Medhi Akhundzadeh will be there. The diplomat asked not to be identified pending an official announcement about this later Monday. The UN-sponsored conference will bring US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and the Iranian delegation together, marking a step toward increased diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran.
