IAn Israeli businessman has been detained in the former Soviet republic of Kazakhstan on suspicion of fraud, Kazakhstan's secret service said on Monday.
The KNB service, the successor agency to the Soviet-era KGB, said Boris Sheinkman was arrested in the predominantly Muslim Central Asian country about a week ago and was being held in a KNB detention centre pending further investigation. "A criminal case has been opened and a fraud accusation has been put forward," said KNB spokesman Kenzhebulat Beknazarov. "The case is being investigated." (Reuters)
