Muslims attack Christian-owned shops in Egypt

Police say shops in Alexandria attacked as crowd gathered near mosque to bury Muslim stabbed during quarrel with his Christian neighbors

Police say Muslims have hurled stones at Christian-owned shops in the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria, Egypt.

A police official says the crowd attacked the shops as they gathered near a mosque Sunday to bury a Muslim stabbed during a quarrel with his Christian neighbors a day earlier.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to talk to the media. Police arrested five Muslims. No casualties were reported.

Police also arrested three Christian brothers accused in the stabbing.

Coptic Christians make up an estimated 10 percent of Egypt's 79 million people. They generally live in peace with the Muslim majority, though occasional clashes occur.
