West Bank: Israeli vehicle stoned, driver moderately hurt

Vehicle stoned while travelling along Highway 60 near settlement of Rachelim; driver sustains head injury, evacuated to Petah Tikva hospital; his daughter unharmed, two hitchhikers suffer shock. Settler committee: Attack direct result of Barak's policy of easing restrictions on Palestinians

A 26-year-old Israeli man sustained moderate injuries Tuesday morning as his vehicle was pelted with stones on Highway 60 in the northern West Bank, near the settlement of Rachelim.

His daughter was unharmed, but two other female hitchhikers who were in the vehicle suffered from shock. IDF forces began combing the area in search of the assailants.

The stone shattered the car's windshield and hit the driver's head. The driver lost control of the car and rammed into the guardrail.

"The driver was bleeding from the head. We treated him at the scene and then rushed him to the Rabin Medical Center in Petah Tikva for further treatment," Magen David Adom paramedic Miki Nemesh said.

The two hitchhikers were evacuated to Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital in Jerusalem.

The Binyamin Settlers Committee said in response to the attack that "Defense Minister Ehud Barak is abandoning the Jewish settlers. The series of murderous terror attacks over the past few days is the direct result of Israel's policy of removing checkpoints and easing restrictions on the Palestinians, which is led by Barak.

"It is inconceivable that any time Barak wants to find favor with the Arabs and the Left, he does so at the expense of the Jews' security. We call on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to contain Barak," the committee said in a statement.
