Officer says was attacked by Arabs in Lod
Soldier serving as police officer says three Arab men attacked him while on his way to Lod station
Police are currently investigating a claim made by an officer who said he was attacked by three Arabs while on his way to the police station in Lod Friday.
He was evacuated to the hospital with light injuries after sustaining blows to his entire body and cuts to the neck. Police are currently searching for suspects.
The officer, a soldier performing compulsory duty with the police, left his home in uniform. He claims that while on his way to the police station he was accosted by three men who beat him. One of them also cut his neck with a sharp object, he says.
He added that the men beat him for a number of minutes before letting him go free. The officer then called for help and was evacuated by paramedics.
Large police forces arrived on the scene, erected checkpoints, and began to search for the culprits. Police say they are also gathering intelligence on the matter.
Police officials confirmed the officer's report, and spokeswoman Leah Zohar said the reason for the assault remains unclear.
